Three months running Latentsync on 8GB locally: the real cost of "free"

cloudybrain07 · reddit · 2026-09-01

After three months running Latentsync locally on 8GB VRAM, the author costed what nobody else had — and "free" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

Local reality:

Verdict: hobby/experimental work — local wins easily; client work with deadlines — hosted won for the author around the eighth paid job, when variance cost more than money.

Technical limit: everything wav2lip-descended is windowed — short spans stitched together. Final stance: ComfyUI for experiments, hosted for other people's deadlines.
