Dev Uses GitHub Copilot CLI to Cut MacBook GPU Power from 18W to 4W on Omarchy
DanWahlin · x · 2026-09-01
After installing Omarchy (Linux + Hyprland) on a 2019 Intel MacBook Pro, Dan Wahlin noticed the machine running hot with the AMD discrete GPU pulling 18W.
He asked GitHub Copilot CLI to investigate. Instead of generic explanations, Copilot inspected the actual hardware, checked which GPU Hyprland and his apps were using, and measured power draw. After system changes and two reboots to verify the fix, GPU power dropped from 18W to 4W. He documented the full process in a 23-minute read.
