Hugging Face unveils Microduck: open-source $400 RL robot
Thom_Wolf · x · 2026-08-31
Hugging Face unveiled Microduck, the first truly accessible Reinforcement Learning robot. It is a 25cm open-source bipedal robot with 15 actuators and packed with sensors (camera, speaker, LiDAR, NFC, bluetooth, wifi, etc.). It supports self-training via RL, works out of the box with over a dozen pre-trained policies for walking, sitting, crouching, roller-skating, picking up objects, and self-recovery, all for under $400. Commentators suggest this could be the 'OpenClaw moment' for robot learning, enabling users to train behaviors in simulation, deploy to the real robot, and publish policies for others to build upon, compounding physical skills like open-source software.
