Professor says Claude grammar fixes got his writing flagged 100% AI by Pangram

In a spat with someone from AI-detector firm Pangram, NYU professor Ipeirotis claimed that passing his writing through Claude just to fix spelling, grammar, and clarity makes Pangram flag it as 100% AI-generated. The Pangram side countered that such light edits rarely trip the detector, and strictly speaking it isn't a false positive since AI was used. Ipeirotis pushed back: does Grammarly or Word's grammar correction count as "using AI"? He added that his arXiv papers, shipped with full reproducibility packages, trip Pangram regularly—yet people call them "slop" based on the detector alone.
