OpenClaw 2.0 arrives: 933 contributors, 16,000+ PRs in its biggest release ever
jedisct1 · x · 2026-08-31
OpenClaw shipped its largest update ever: built by 933 contributors (569 first-timers) across 16,000+ pull requests — roughly half of all PRs ever merged — touching installation, messaging, memory, skills, models, automations, browser and native apps, plugins, and security.
The update started as a push to simplify installation and make the browser app first-class, but doing it properly forced a cleanup across the whole project. After 106 releases in 230 days, the near-seven-week gap came from outgrowing both the codebase foundation and the release process, so both were reworked. First-time installs now reuse existing ChatGPT/Claude subscriptions, API keys, and local models, with much less configuration.
