Oxford's van der Schaar Lab is restarting its Inspiration Exchange series for the new academic year, opening with a session titled "From Learning Skills to Competing for Work: The Emerging Economy of AI Agents," scheduled for September 17 at 4pm BST.
The session will examine what happens when AI agents continually learn new skills and then compete for work, featuring two ICML 2026 papers from the lab on continual skill acquisition, strategic capabilities, and AI labour markets. Inspiration Exchange is the lab's recurring engagement series for ML researchers, combining tutorials, research presentations, industry roundtables, and Q&A.
