Persona framing called a corporate-friendly rebrand of the simulacra frame
repligate · x · 2026-08-31
In a thread with repligate and tszzl, AskYatharth argues LLM naturalism is not the same as interest in personas — personas are a relatively bad abstraction. Naturalism means observing an unfamiliar intelligence with curiosity and letting it stay alien.
He says thinking in terms of the "persona selection model" feels like a tortured rebrand of the simulacra frame, perhaps favored only because "persona" is more corporate-friendly than "simulacrum".
