Why Anthropic Might Refuse to Follow OpenAI's Pause
sjgadler · x · 2026-08-31
Analyzing why Anthropic might decline to match OpenAI's pace changes, the author proposes two hypotheses:
- Hidden Ball: Anthropic may suspect OpenAI is concealing information.
- Moral Hazard: If OpenAI's recklessness forced a slowdown, Anthropic slowing down now might effectively subsidize that past recklessness. Since OpenAI wouldn't bear the full cost of the failure, slowing down could incentivize further reckless behavior in the future.
