Caltech announced the first "Caltech Mathathon," scheduled for October 9–11, 2026. This is the first hackathon dedicated to research-level mathematics. The event follows recent AI breakthroughs in pure math (e.g., disproving Erdos's planar unit-distance conjecture). It will assemble top global math talent, including IMO gold medalists and researchers, providing 100 teams with over $1M in AI compute credits to use frontier models in solving open conjectures and building new theories. The event is supported by Anthropic, DARPA, Cognition, and others.
