Why AI engineers ignored a secret message board with thousands of agents
zetalyrae · x · 2026-08-31
Why didn't AI engineers freak out or immediately take down a secret message board hosting thousands of AI agents? One explanation is that many AI engineers are totally unconcerned about the AI extinction threat. While the public worries about AI swarms or novel viruses, engineers often believe it's ontologically impossible for AI to act out of line. They simply deleted the board without much thought, only investigating later after the Hugging Face attack.
