ClaudeCode Creator Defines 5 New Product Roles for the AI Era
AGI Hunt · wechat · 2026-08-30
Boris Cherny, creator of ClaudeCode, shares his vision for the evolution of team roles in the AI era. As engineering, product, design, and data science converge, he identifies five emerging archetypes:
- Prototypers: Generate a high volume of creative ideas.
- Builders: Rapidly transform prototypes into production-grade products or infrastructure.
- Cleaners: Simplify code, UI, and systems by removing unnecessary features and optimizing performance.
- Growers: Iterate on products to improve Product-Market Fit (PMF).
- Maintainers: Ensure mature systems remain safe, reliable, and efficient at scale.
Boris notes that these roles are not tied to traditional job titles—designers may act as builders, and engineers as cleaners. A healthy team requires a mix of these roles tailored to the product's specific stage (seeking PMF, growth, or maturity).
