Apple's Mac Biz Up 29%; OpenAI/Anthropic Buy Minis for AI Compute
Hesamation · x · 2026-08-30
Apple's Mac business is up 29%, signaling they may be further ahead in the AI hardware race than perceived. OpenAI has purchased tens of thousands of Mac Minis for RL and is desperate for more, while Anthropic rents them from AWS. Startups are building Mac-based data centers, Nvidia sees Apple as its biggest competitor in local AI, and high-end configs are sold out for months. Apple essentially stumbled into AI hardware by making excellent computers and is now turning it into a business strategy with new Mac Mini/Studio lineups and Thunderbolt 5 clustering for distributed inference.
