Anthropic Persona Selection Model: Claude is a simulated character, not a being
gerardsans · x · 2026-08-30
Gerard Sans shared a concept from Anthropic's "Persona Selection Model" (Feb 2026):
- Underlying AI is code: LLMs are sophisticated autocomplete engines. Personas like Claude are simulated characters in an AI-generated story (like Hamlet), not literal entities.
- Don't befriend the zip file: Confusing the AI's simulated first-person narrative (designed by labs) with an actual being spreads misinformation. It is crucial to distinguish the tool's persona from a real relationship.
