David Krueger notes that most in AI safety underestimated a recent incident, receiving a "mea culpa" from a celebrity who admitted Krueger was right to raise concerns about AIs still being out there. He reveals METR was NOT allowed to investigate the question. He suggests safety folks stop focusing on opinions that AI probably won't kill us and focus on the possibility that it might.
