Ethan Mollick finds most hard sci-fi authors hate LLMs, for three distinct reasons
emollick · x · 2026-08-30
Wharton professor Ethan Mollick skimmed the websites of his favorite hard science fiction authors and found that the majority of them hate LLMs, for roughly three reasons:
- They see LLMs as a useless "stochastic parrot";
- Anger over IP (their work used as training data);
- A minority cite existential risk.
What strikes him: the people best at imagining future technology are among AI's sharpest critics.
