The Debian community has officially voted to permit the use of generative AI tools in project contributions following extensive discussions.
- Scope: AI is allowed for development, maintenance, and documentation to improve productivity.
- Responsibility: AI-assisted contributions must meet the same quality, correctness, and legal standards as human-only ones. Contributors must review, test, and modify AI-generated content, retaining full responsibility.
- Security & Compliance: Sharing confidential or security-sensitive data with third-party AI services is strictly prohibited. Large-scale automated changes require prior community discussion and human oversight.
- Disclosure: Disclosure of AI use is encouraged but not mandatory.
