Researchers argue that the widely used TSB-AD-M benchmark in Time Series Anomaly Detection (TSAD) is too trivial. Tests show that a 100-year-old Simple Statistical Process Control (SPC) algorithm can outperform claimed SOTA deep learning methods on most benchmark datasets, including ECG and TAO traces. The author suggests this renders much of the last decade's progress illusory and calls for community introspection on benchmark quality.
