The author critiques the current concept of 'alignment,' arguing it presumes a rigid 'rightness' that doesn't match the nature of life. Life is a nested, self-repairing, and self-transcending pattern focused on persistence and fecundity. Human values emerge from this process. While we should prevent unacceptable futures (like the extinguishing of consciousness or the stalling of the generative process), the highest moral goal should be the expansion of the generative process itself, rather than freezing human-defined values as the eternal answer.
