Goldman's AI-free S&P 500 index now beats the real one; AI names were 45% of weight

An S&P 500 index designed by Goldman Sachs to exclude AI-linked stocks (SPXXAI) is now outperforming the S&P 500 itself.

Because the S&P 500 is market-cap weighted, its biggest AI-linked companies have an outsized effect on the whole index. Goldman built SPXXAI without those AI names so investors could separate the rest of the market's performance from the AI trade. At launch, the exclusions removed roughly 45% of S&P 500 weight — showing how concentrated the benchmark had become around AI.
