AI doesn't mean the end of mathematics – yet

Bruce Schneier and Kasra Rafi argue in The Guardian that AI is nowhere near as capable as experienced academic mathematicians, despite recent breakthroughs. While frontier models have produced PhD-level results and solved long-standing conjectures, they excel at searching and recombining existing ideas rather than building deep, sustained new theory.
