MIT Prof. Markus Buehler shares findings from SwarmWorld: a swarm of hundreds of initially identical AI agents spontaneously differentiated into explorers, builders, caretakers, and coordinators—without any direct communication. Remarkably, even after removing all agents from the world, the technological infrastructure they built remained. This demonstrates that AI agents can invent and build technologies through collective behavior, and their creations can outlive their creators, highlighting the emergent capabilities of decentralized agent systems.
