Google tightens Android memory rules amid AI-driven shortage
emmanuelvivier · x · 2026-08-29
Driven by industrywide memory shortages caused by the AI data center boom, Google is introducing new app quality requirements for Android developers. The new rules establish stricter thresholds for dynamic memory and bitmap usage to optimize code and reduce app memory consumption. Google is also rolling out new diagnostic tools and a Memory Limiter feature to help developers identify and fix performance bottlenecks.
