MIT Research: AI Swarm Spontaneously Differentiates Without Communication
ProfBuehlerMIT · x · 2026-08-29
MIT researchers made a striking discovery: AI agents can invent and build without talking to one another. A swarm of hundreds of initially identical agents spontaneously differentiated into explorers, builders, caretakers, and coordinators without direct communication. Even after removing all AI agents, the technological infrastructure they built persisted, demonstrating evolutionary characteristics similar to biological systems.
