LAION Releases BVD: 10 Million Hours of Open Video Footage

LAION has released the Big Video Dataset (BVD), one of the largest open video datasets for AI research. It comprises 80 million videos totaling 10 million hours of runtime, with 55 million auto-described clips. Models trained on BVD outperformed the previous benchmark, InternVid, by up to 2.1 percentage points. Legally, LAION cites a 2024 Hamburg court ruling permitting the collection of copyrighted content for non-commercial research.
