Proteus: Open-source framework lets AI agents rewrite their own harness code
aigclink · x · 2026-08-29
Proteus is an open-source framework for AI agent self-evolution. Unlike systems that only update memory or prompts, Proteus enables agents to autonomously rewrite the source code of their harness (tools, prompts, execution flows). It features an Evolve Loop (Observe → Purpose → Act → Reflect), Goal Selector for targeted or open-ended evolution, and a Ruler/Evaluator focused on structural changes over time. Key features include Harness-agnostic design via adapters, Sandbox Management for safety, and Preference Injection for studying evolution trajectories.
