Cursor ends Anthropic partnership citing trust, hints at distillation issues

Code editor Cursor announced it is ending its partnership with Anthropic and will stop providing direct access to Anthropic's models on November 12. The official statement cited "trust" as the core reason. Industry speculation links this to "model distillation," where developers use outputs from a powerful model to train or improve others. Cursor noted users can still use Anthropic models via their own API keys and pledged support for a wider range of tools, both open-source and closed-source.
