Ed Newton Rex accused Hugging Face of facilitating copyright theft, noting that co-founders, including Thomas Wolf, personally uploaded the BookCorpus dataset containing 7,000+ pirated books from Smashwords without permission. The dataset, which includes copyright notices, has been hosted for three years and used for training. Toby Walsh questioned the lack of class action lawsuits against these practices.
