Blue Sky Analytics founder: our AI climate startup died of monetization, not tech

Founder Abhilasha Purwar recounts running climate-tech startup Blue Sky Analytics from 2019 to 2024: satellite data plus AI for air pollution analytics, wildfire and flood risk, and by 2021 systems measuring water quantity changes in lakes, dams and rivers.

She admits the hardest part was monetization, not technology. In 2024, weighing opportunity costs for founders, team and investors, and after failed acquisition talks, they collectively shut the company down. She then took a sabbatical and describes falling into a freeze state after sending the shutdown email to investors.
