Vercel launches vgpu: WebGPU library designed for agents, one shader renders everywhere
seanwbren · x · 2026-08-29
Vercel Labs released vgpu, a WebGPU library designed for agents, accessible via Prompt, CLI, Skill, and MCP.
Key capabilities:
- One shader, render everywhere: the same shader runs in the browser and headless Node.js — interactive, any resolution, exportable to video, and testable in CI (compile shader, render headless frame, compare snapshot).
- Shader code that scales: import/export WGSL like TypeScript; vgpu resolves the module graph, reflects bindings, removes unused declarations, and emits compact shader source at build time.
The post quotes rauchg's view that the web is evolving into two extremes: ultra-fancy human experiences (three.js/typegpu) on one end, and pure machine-consumable data and APIs (markdown + MCP) on the other — the middle will be subsumed by agents generating just-in-time UI. Think of the agent as the new browser.
