Artist social platform Cara reported a series of malicious scraping attacks since August 13, resulting in thousands of dollars in server bills and legal fees. Attackers scraped over 21 million images and user metadata. Cara emphasized its Terms of Service explicitly prohibit unauthorized scraping, as the platform's mission is to prevent artist work from being used for AI training without consent. To combat the attacks and seek legal recourse, founder Jingna Zhang launched a fundraiser with a goal of $120,000, raising over $105,000 so far.
