Gemini Designs Precursor for MXene Synthesis in New Materials Science Experiment

Google DeepMind reported progress in materials science using Gemini AI. The model designed a safe precursor (C2Cl6) for bottom-up MXene synthesis. Following extensive human-led lab iterations, the team successfully grew a 2D material with structural similarities to Ti3C2Tx MXene. This experiment was part of a study testing AI across four domains at varying autonomy levels, demonstrating the potential of AI in researching 2D materials beyond the 3nm limit of silicon.
