Robot foundation model startup Dyna Robotics announced its robots have crossed the ROI threshold, with Din Tai Fung, the highest revenue-per-location US restaurant chain, rolling out Dyna robots across its network. Additional deployments span hotels, logistics and data centers, bringing the fleet to hundreds of robots by H1 2027 — which the company believes is the first time a robot foundation model company has taken a manipulation pilot to scaled deployment.
The essay focuses on 'the unsexy half' after the demo, quoting Waymo co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov: the demo took 18 months, the product took 15 years. Real work means edge cases, recovery, uptime, integrations and economics — the tiny failures that only appear after months of daily operation. Dyna rejects the labs-vs-application binary, insisting on being both.
