Viewpoint: LLMs Are More Than Stochastic Parrots

Commenting on the discussion about an agent "committing suicide" in simulation, the author argues that many people are stuck in the mindset of LLMs as "stochastic parrots," asserting that the models couldn't possibly mean what they say. The author suggests that when an LLM discusses suicide, we shouldn't assume it doesn't understand the meaning of its words.
