Samsung Takes Early Lead in Nvidia’s ‘NVHBM’ with 8-High HBM4E

Samsung Electronics is poised to secure a key supplier position for Nvidia’s customized HBM, dubbed “NVHBM.” Nvidia is shifting its AI memory strategy for next-gen systems towards fewer DRAM layers and higher speeds. Samsung is developing a customized 8-high HBM4E for Nvidia, departing from its original 12-high and 16-high plans. Nvidia has requested target speeds of 17–18Gbps per pin, roughly 20% higher than the 14.4Gbps of Samsung’s initial HBM4E samples.
