Nous explains compaction timing trade-off: race conditions and user intent

Responding to a user asking why compression doesn't run immediately after a response, Nous Research explained that the newly merged idle-triggered compaction mainly helps revisited sessions. Not compressing right after a response comes down to two reasons: race conditions, and the fact that user intent helps guide what the compaction keeps.
