Stanford Prof Slams Virtual Cell Model: Tech Details Missing, Claims Undemonstrated
anshulkundaje · x · 2026-08-28
Anshul Kundaje, a leading computational genomics researcher, posted a harsh critique of a "virtual cell" technical report. In his view, the system is essentially a stateful software platform orchestrating many predictors and generators — it demonstrates no jointly learned, coherent, causal, or dynamic virtual-cell world model. He says none of the central claims are actually demonstrated, the technical details are missing, and the biological case studies are poor, promising a longer analysis soon.
