Google launches PPE to automate geospatial prediction workflows
aigclink · x · 2026-08-28
Google introduces the Planetary Prediction Engine (PPE), an autonomous system orchestrated by LLMs that converts natural language into geospatial prediction tasks. It automates the entire workflow from data discovery (satellite imagery, population data) and cleaning to feature engineering and model training, reducing weeks of work to minutes.
- Architecture: Three-stage design including intelligent spatial data selection, multimodal dataset curation, and automated model building.
- Performance: Significantly outperforms baselines in US health indicators (R² 76.8% vs 60%), Nigeria food security (doubled accuracy), and Congo Ebola prediction (+10% accuracy).
- Applications: Famine prediction, epidemic tracking, flood risk assessment, etc.
