DanielLockyer · x · 2026-08-28
Cloudflare shared results on optimizing their DNS cache using Rust. At 250 billion cache entries, a single wasted byte costs 250GB of RAM. Through five Rust optimizations, they freed 100TB of RAM, increased insertion speed by 43%, and improved lookup speed by 19%, without trading performance for space.
