Ai2's AutoDiscovery Finds Immunotherapy Clue in Cancer Data Humans Missed for Years

Per GeekWire, Allen Institute for AI's AutoDiscovery system found evidence that a common form of breast cancer long considered a poor immunotherapy candidate might actually respond to it.
- AutoDiscovery, announced in February, flips the usual workflow: instead of waiting for a scientist's question, it generates hypotheses from a dataset and ranks them by how much they challenge existing assumptions.
- Dr. Kelly Paulson's team at Providence Swedish confirmed the finding via immunofluorescence images showing T-cells surrounding lobular breast cancer tumor samples.
- The partnership has expanded: Providence Swedish will deploy AutoDiscovery on its own patient data to hunt similar overlooked findings in other diseases.
- A paper is posted on MedRxiv.
