Study claims Text-to-SQL model achieves human-level accuracy at lower cost

Research from Bridgewater AIA Labs and UIUC achieves SOTA on a cleaned BIRD text-to-SQL dataset. Using Tinker API, it outperforms all tested frontier models (including Fable and Sol) by up to 8x cheaper. The study shows feasibility of achieving higher performance at a fraction of the cost by incorporating task expertise into specific training.
