Cisco gave 90,000 employees AI agents backed by 800+ subagents, routing most traffic off frontier models

Cisco has deployed personalized AI agents called MyAgent for its 90,000 employees, backed by more than 800 subagents. For cost control, 50%-60% of requests go to open-weight models, 20%-30% to software automation, and only a small remainder to a frontier model. The system runs on infrastructure Cisco has built since 2023, when its internal assistant initially ran on Azure OpenAI.

Executives describe their philosophy: rewrite processes from the ground up for agents rather than reworking old ones; enhance employees instead of replacing them, doubling human capacity; favor practicality over hype — the best results blend deterministic automation with optimized prompting, avoiding "token-maxxing"; and insist on data sovereignty, where customer data belongs to the customer.
