SwarmWorld: AI Agent Populations Develop Persistent Cultures and Role Specialization Across Generations

A new arXiv paper, SwarmWorld, shows that large populations of AI agents in a simulated environment spontaneously develop persistent "technological cultures" over generations—distinct groups form their own inherited tool-use traditions that persist across generations, along with specialized role division among agents.
The work provides an experimental framework for studying how culture and division of labor emerge spontaneously in multi-agent societies, and draws attention to the long-horizon evolutionary behavior of large agent populations.
