Nvidia to Acquire Hugging Face for $12.9 Billion
创业邦 · wechat · 2026-08-27
Reports suggest Nvidia has agreed to acquire the world's largest open-source model community, Hugging Face, for $12.9 billion. The acquisition aims to control the AI model distribution ecosystem, combining Hugging Face's 13 million developers with Nvidia's GPU ecosystem, similar to Microsoft's acquisition of GitHub. Hugging Face has recently expanded into inference engines and robotics hardware through acquisitions like llama.cpp and Pollen Robotics. While the price is 80 times its ARR, Nvidia values it as a strategic developer gateway. There are concerns that the acquisition will compromise Hugging Face's neutrality, affecting its support for non-Nvidia hardware like AMD.
