Hugging Face Co-founder Shows Off $399 Open-Source Biped Robot Microduck

Hugging Face co-founder Thomas Wolf shared fun experiments with Microduck, a 25cm open-source bipedal robot from Pollen Robotics × Hugging Face, priced at $399 with pre-orders opening Aug 27, 2026 and shipping before Christmas 2026.
Its core workflow is sim2real: train behavior policies in physics simulation (locally or on Hugging Face Jobs), deploy to the real robot in one step, then refine, re-train and re-deploy. New policies can be published back to the community. It ships with walk, sit/stand and kick behaviors out of the box.
Wolf vibe-coded an image detector integration so the robot detects and follows a laser pointer — his takeaway: with an open-source robot carrying this many sensors, the sky's the limit.
