Anima Anandkumar Makes TIME's AI 100 as Her Startup Accelerated Understanding Launches
AnimaAnandkumar · x · 2026-08-27
Caltech professor and former NVIDIA research lead Anima Anandkumar announced she was named one of TIME's 100 most influential people in AI, alongside the public launch of her startup Accelerated Understanding.
She traces a decade of AI+Science work: inventing Neural Operators at Caltech as a foundation for multi-scale physical modeling; building FourCastNet at NVIDIA with Jensen Huang's backing — the first high-resolution AI weather model, tens of thousands of times faster than existing systems; and recently applying Neural Operators to accelerating nuclear fusion simulation. She argues AI's greatest impact on science is massively accelerating simulation and understanding of the physical world.
