Hyundai May Sell Boston Dynamics' Atlas via Car Dealerships, With Financing

At its 2026 CEO Investor Day, Hyundai said it is considering selling Boston Dynamics' humanoid robot Atlas through its automotive dealer network, with Hyundai Capital exploring financing/leasing — buy a robot like you buy a car.
Roadmap highlights:
- Atlas deployed in Hyundai's own factories first, with RMAC collecting real-world data
- U.S. production starts 2028, targeting 30,000 units/year
- Later expansion to external customers via dealers
This comes as the automaker humanoid race heats up: XPeng raised $900M+ for its robotics arm at a $6.3B+ valuation (IRON targeted for mass production by end-2026); Xiaomi trains its next-gen CyberOne in its car factory; Tesla prepares a million-unit Optimus V3 line. The author argues Hyundai is grafting decades of auto manufacturing, supply chain, dealership and finance infrastructure onto robots — no longer experimentation, but a commercialization race.
