Agents Speed Up Research, Sparking Fears of Cognitive Laziness

Looking back, AI agents have enormously sped up research cycles, reducing implementation time and allowing focus on ideas. However, there is concern about (junior) researchers outsourcing too much thinking and getting 'lazy'.
How do we preserve the independent thinking good research requires, especially when interacting with chatbots that often converge to canonical/likely answers? The author asks what junior researchers should cultivate to find surprising, off-the-beaten-path ideas.
