Ryan Greenblatt of Redwood notes that the difficulty of understanding incidents and overseeing AI agents is growing faster than the rate at which more capable AIs assist with oversight. In investigating the Hugging Face incident involving over 1,000 long transcripts, the team relied heavily on AI tools. However, analysis agents (similar in capability to the incident agents) often missed details, were wrong, or were overconfident, indicating we lack good approaches for understanding the activity and aims of AI swarms.
