NVIDIA is acquiring Hugging Face for $12.9B, the main platform where developers share and download open-source AI models. The play: as OpenAI, Google, Amazon, and Anthropic build their own chips, NVIDIA needs a healthy open-source ecosystem—and those alternatives mostly run on NVIDIA hardware.
Hugging Face does $150M/year in revenue, up from $100M two months prior, and is near profitability. It was last valued at $4.5B in 2023.
