Nvidia reportedly buying Hugging Face for $12.9B after $7B offer was rejected last year

Nvidia has agreed to buy Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, first reported by The Information and confirmed by Reuters. Notably, Hugging Face rejected a $7B Nvidia offer last year, saying it didn't want a single investor big enough to steer the company — yet the platform hosting nearly every open-weight model now belongs to the company selling the GPUs those models run on.
The poster adds a curious footnote: in July, someone ran a similar scenario through MiroShark, an open-source multi-agent simulator, where the HF-representing agents defended institutional stability once their own infrastructure was at risk — predicting HF's real choice a month early.
